In a significant diplomatic and cultural achievement, the revered holy scriptures of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji have been triumphantly returned to India, thanks to the dedicated efforts of India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Indian Embassy in Doha, Qatar. The sacred texts, which hold immense spiritual significance for the Sikh community, were recently recovered by local police in Doha and have been honorably enshrined at Gurdwara Baba Gurbaksh Singh in the prestigious Sri Darbar Sahib complex.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) played a crucial role in this successful operation. According to S. Pratap Singh, Secretary of the SGPC, the committee received late-night information about the imminent arrival of the scriptures and promptly mobilized resources to ensure their safe return. Upon reaching Sri Guru Ram Dass International Airport in Amritsar, the SGPC oversaw the retrieval with the utmost reverence, utilizing a palanquin to symbolize the respect accorded to the holy texts.
The process was meticulously overseen by Singh Sahib Gyani Ragbeer Singh, the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the SGPC. Their leadership ensured that every detail of the retrieval and transportation was handled with dignity and respect. The SGPC has committed to submitting a comprehensive report to Sri Akal Takht Sahib, detailing the collaborative efforts and coordination involved in the successful return of the scriptures.
The Government of India’s unwavering support and the MEA’s strategic involvement were pivotal in facilitating the return of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. This significant achievement underscores the importance of preserving cultural and spiritual heritage and highlights the commitment of Indian authorities to the Sikh community and the broader national interest.
The Indian Embassy in Doha, Qatar, also received heartfelt gratitude from the SGPC for its invaluable assistance throughout this process. The return of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji has been met with profound joy and reverence among Sikhs worldwide, reaffirming their dedication to safeguarding their sacred heritage.
