Verka Milk Plant in Mohali to Double Production with Rs 325 Crore Expansion

In a bold move to meet the surging demand for dairy products, the Phase-6 Verka Milk plant in Mohali is embarking on a massive expansion project worth ₹325 crore. The ambitious plan aims to nearly double the plant’s daily milk processing capacity from 6.5 lakh litres to an impressive 13.7 lakh litres within the next two years.

The expansion will see the liquid milk processing capacity rise to 10 lakh litres per day. Additionally, the facility will allocate an extra 3.7 lakh litres daily for the production of fermented dairy products, including popular items like lassi and curd. To cater to the increasing market demand for butter, a state-of-the-art chiplets packing unit will be introduced, capable of packaging butter in 10g and 100g units.

Narinder Singh Shergill, Chairman of Punjab Milkfed, emphasized that this upgrade is a cornerstone of Verka’s broader strategy to modernize and scale its operations throughout Punjab. “This investment not only enhances our processing capabilities but also integrates advanced technology to boost our efficiency and productivity,” Shergill stated.

The project will encompass the installation of fully automated units, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted operations across all production lines. This technological leap is expected to streamline the manufacturing process, reduce wastage, and maintain the high quality standards synonymous with Verka products.

Beyond the Mohali plant, Milkfed’s other feed plants are also slated for significant infrastructural upgrades. These enhancements are part of a statewide initiative to strengthen Verka’s supply chain and distribution network. In a related development, Punjab Chief Minister is set to inaugurate a ₹160 crore fermented dairy facility dedicated to curd and lassi production. Although completed by Verka two years ago, the facility’s official dedication underscores the government’s commitment to supporting the dairy sector.

The expansion not only promises to boost Verka’s production capacity but also aims to create numerous employment opportunities in the region. By leveraging modern technologies and expanding its product range, Verka is poised to reinforce its position as a leading dairy brand in Punjab and beyond.

As Verka Milk plant in Mohali gears up for this significant transformation, stakeholders and consumers alike are optimistic about the positive impacts on the local economy and the enhanced availability of high-quality dairy products across the state.
