Record Turnout Among Women Voters in Malerkotla

by Manjari Singh

In a display of robust democratic participation, approximately 64 percent of eligible voters headed to the polls in the Malerkotla, Amargarh, and Ahmedgarh subdivisions. The elections, conducted under stringent security measures, saw voters casting their ballots at 278 polling booths spread across 176 villages.

Amargarh subdivision emerged as a standout, recording the highest voter turnout with 65.58 percent of eligible voters participating. Notably, the region witnessed a significant surge in female voter engagement, with 17,951 women out of 24,369 eligible voters casting their votes by 4 p.m. This marks a record number of women exercising their democratic rights in the area.

Ahmedgarh subdivision also reported a commendable turnout of 65.1 percent, reflecting sustained voter enthusiasm. In contrast, Malerkotla subdivision registered a slightly lower participation rate of 62.24 percent by the same deadline. Despite this, the overall engagement across all three subdivisions underscores a healthy interest in the electoral process.

Polling activities extended into the late evening in several villages, ensuring that voters had ample opportunity to participate despite the tight security presence. The extended hours aimed to accommodate those who might have faced earlier scheduling conflicts, further boosting the overall turnout.

Election officials credited the high voter participation to effective voter mobilization efforts and the establishment of numerous polling stations, which minimized wait times and facilitated easier access for residents. The record number of women voters, particularly in Amargarh, highlights a positive trend towards greater female involvement in the political landscape.

As the results continue to unfold, the strong voter turnout across Malerkotla, Amargarh, and Ahmedgarh subdivisions sets a promising precedent for future elections, reflecting a committed and engaged electorate.
