Punjab’s state-run defence preparatory institutes have added another chapter to their growing success story, with two cadets from the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (MRSAFPI), Mohali, securing top positions in the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT-II) and the Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination.

Cadets Sukhraj Singh Heera and Jasnoor Singh, both from the institute’s 10th course, achieved impressive national rankings in AFCAT-II, securing All India Rank (AIR) 2 and AIR 6, respectively. Their accomplishments were further amplified by outstanding performances in the CDS examination, where Jasnoor emerged as the top-ranked candidate in the Air Force category, while Sukhraj secured the fourth position in the Army category.

The dual achievement is being viewed as a rare milestone, as candidates from the same institution have simultaneously secured top-five positions in two separate national defence examinations.

Sukhraj Singh Heera, who hails from Rupnagar district, is the son of a government school teacher. Jasnoor Singh belongs to Pathankot district. Both cadets have already earned selection for CDS training courses scheduled to commence later this month.

The latest success comes close on the heels of another landmark achievement by Punjab’s defence training ecosystem. Earlier this week, cadets from the Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute made headlines after securing top positions in national defence merit lists, including a first rank in the Air Force Academy examination and a top-20 rank in the National Defence Academy examination.

Congratulating the successful candidates, Punjab Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Minister Aman Arora described the achievements as a matter of pride for the entire state. He reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening both MRSAFPI and Mai Bhago AFPI, ensuring that talented youth from ordinary backgrounds receive opportunities to pursue careers in the armed forces.

“The dream is to provide meaningful opportunities to young people and help those who aspire to wear the uniform serve the nation,” the minister said.

MRSAFPI Director Major General Ajay H. Chauhan (Retd.) lauded the cadets for their dedication and highlighted the institute’s growing contribution to the armed forces. He noted that nearly 24 cadets from the institute are expected to receive joining letters for various military training academies in the coming weeks.

With outstanding performances across AFCAT, CDS, the Air Force Academy examination and the NDA entrance process within a span of two days, Punjab’s defence preparatory institutes have demonstrated their rising stature on the national stage, reinforcing the state’s reputation as a key contributor to the country’s future military leadership.
