National Moot Court Competition in Punjab Draws Delegates from Across India

Seventy-eight delegates representing 26 teams from nine states descended upon Sriganganagar on Saturday to partake in the inaugural Dr SS Tantia Moot Court Competition-2025 at Tantia University. Organized by the Law Faculty of the university, the event is set to showcase budding legal minds from Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Gujarat.

The inauguration ceremony was a confluence of distinguished legal academicians and university dignitaries. The session was presided over by Sunita Tantia, Chairman of Tantia University, and graced by the presence of several notable figures. Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University Vice-Chancellor Prof Amarpal Singh served as the chief guest, while Panjab University’s Rajesh Kumar and Prof Bharat were honored as special guests. Host university Vice-Chancellor Prof MM Saxena also took to the stage, reflecting his pride in hosting such a prestigious event.

Saurabh Garg, the event’s convener, extended a warm welcome to all attendees and guests, setting an enthusiastic tone for the day’s proceedings. The formal inauguration saw Sunita Tantia emphasizing that the memories forged through this program would resonate with the participants long after the event.

In his address, Prof Amarpal Singh stressed that legal education extends well beyond classroom instruction. “Law cannot be learned solely from textbooks,” he remarked, underscoring the importance of understanding local languages in addition to English. He explained that the dynamic nature of legal practice, whether as an advocate or a judge, necessitates practical exposure to real-world situations.

Prof Bharat highlighted that integrity should complement the cleverness and courage expected of legal professionals. Rajesh Kumar reminded the audience of the enduring principles of law and justice, noting that participants in the moot court today are poised to become the advocates of tomorrow. “In this role, understanding newly implemented laws will be crucial,” he added.

Prof MM Saxena expressed his appreciation for hosting the event in Sriganganagar, viewing the participation of teams from diverse states as a testament to the growing interest in legal education and practice nationwide.

Over the coming days, law students from across the country will engage in rigorous debates and exercises designed to test their legal acumen, logic, and advocacy skills. The competition promises not only to be a platform for legal excellence but also a memorable experience that bridges academic learning with practical application.
