Literary Luminary: Jasbir Bhullar Honored Amongst Greats

In a celebration of literary brilliance and cultural diversity, the Bhartiya Bhasha Parishad, Kolkata, announces the recipients of the esteemed Kritittwa Samagra Samman-2024. Among the distinguished honorees is the venerable Punjabi litterateur, Jasbir Bhullar, whose remarkable contributions to literature have captivated readers for decades.

Jasbir Bhullar, an esteemed figure in Punjabi literature at the age of 82, will be joined by three other eminent authors representing the rich tapestry of Indian languages. M. Mukandan, hailed for his contributions in Malayalam literature, Radha Vallabh Tripathi, revered for his Sanskrit works, and Bhagwan Dass Morwal, celebrated for his contributions to Hindi literature, complete this illustrious quartet of honorees.

The award ceremony, scheduled for April 30, 2024, in Kolkata, promises to be a momentous occasion, honoring these literary stalwarts for their outstanding achievements. The Bhartiya Bhasha Parishad, an institution dedicated to the promotion of Indian language literature since its inception in 1975, continues its tradition of recognizing excellence in the literary realm.

Established in 1980, the Kritittwa Samagra Samman is one of the pinnacle awards bestowed by the Bhartiya Bhasha Parishad. It encompasses not only prestige but also tangible accolades, including a citation, Angwastra (traditional Indian attire), and a generous cash prize of Rs. One lakh.

Jasbir Bhullar, a retired army colonel who resides in SAS Nagar (Manali), has left an indelible mark on the literary landscape with his extensive body of work. With nearly three dozen books spanning across genres such as short stories, novels, poetry, literary essays, and children’s literature, Bhullar’s oeuvre reflects the depth of his literary prowess.

Having previously received accolades from esteemed institutions such as the Bhartiya Sahitya Academy (New Delhi), the Language Department, Punguts, and the Punjab Arts Council, Jasbir Bhullar’s inclusion in the esteemed roster of Kritittwa Samagra Samman recipients further underscores his enduring impact on Punjabi literature.

As the literary community eagerly awaits the upcoming ceremony, it serves as a poignant reminder of the power of words to transcend boundaries and unite cultures.
