Chandigarh, September 6: Four young cadets from Punjab, including two women, have been commissioned as Lieutenants in the Indian Army, marking another achievement for the state’s armed forces preparatory institutes.
The newly commissioned officers include two cadets each from the Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute for Girls and the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (MRSAFPI).
They formally joined the officer ranks following the Passing Out Parade at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, on Saturday. The parade was reviewed by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan.
Among the two women officers, Lieutenant Deepnoor has been commissioned into the Army Aviation Corps. She is the daughter of Sukhbir Singh, a professor at Sardar Beant Singh State University in Gurdaspur, and Ramanpreet Kaur, a government school teacher.
Lieutenant Diksha Dhiman has joined the Army Ordnance Corps. A native of a Pathankot family, she is the daughter of businessman Pawan Kumar and Indu.
The two cadets trained at MRSAFPI have also entered different branches of the Army. Lieutenant Ishpreet Singh Dhillon, son of late Paramjit Singh Dhillon and Santosh Kaur, has been commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery.
Lieutenant Arsh Singh, son of retired Major General P.S. Sandhu, has joined the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Branch. His commissioning also continues his family’s association with the armed forces, making him a second-generation Army officer.
