In a moment of immense pride for Punjab, two young men from Mohali—former cadets of the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute—have been commissioned as officers in the Indian Navy. The commissioning took place at the Indian Naval Academy (INA) in Ezhimala, Kerala, during a solemn and grand passing-out parade.
Mohinder Singh Sekhon and Vinay Kaushik, both hailing from Mohali, marched with pride alongside 170 of their fellow cadets, marking the successful completion of their rigorous naval training. Their commissioning reflects not only personal determination and perseverance but also the role of preparatory institutions like the Maharaja Ranjit Singh AFPI in nurturing future leaders of the armed forces.
The ceremonial parade was reviewed by Vice Admiral V Srinivas, AVSM, NM, Commandant of the INA. Addressing the newly minted officers, he emphasized the values of courage, integrity, and commitment that define a naval officer’s life. “You are now guardians of the nation’s maritime frontiers. The journey ahead will be demanding, but one filled with honour and purpose,” he said.
In total, 172 cadets were commissioned into the Indian Armed Forces, with 20 joining the Indian Navy. The event was attended by proud families, dignitaries, and senior officers who bore witness to the ceremonial passing of the baton to the next generation of military leaders.
The success of Sekhon and Kaushik stands as a beacon of inspiration for countless youth aspiring to serve the nation. Their achievement is also a testament to Mohali’s growing reputation as a cradle for future armed forces officers.
